Shazia Syed is a homemaker from Mumbai, whose typical day is all about taking care of her family and her health. Her secret to fitness lies in finding ways to exercise in her daily household work and making sure that she gets her “me” time every day.
Shazia has been on a journey to good health for the past three years. Since she’s started, she has worked hard to let go of unhealthy food habits that were affecting her health, and has kept a consistent balance between eating healthy and indulging. Today, she looks forward to sweating it out with different forms of exercise and challenges herself every step of the way.
Here's how Shazia manages to do it all.
A Day in the Life of Shazia
Morning:
Shazia’s day starts off with a warm cup of black coffee and a few almonds.
She then heads to the kitchen to do some cleaning and washes the utensils - her form of morning exercise.
(On the days that she gets some leisure time, she does oil pulling for her skin using coconut oil.)
Afternoon:
Shazia prepares lunch for her and her family. After lunch or any meal, she keeps a gap of half an hour before drinking water. The rest of her afternoon is spent in doing other household chores like cleaning the cupboard, re-organizing/re-stocking the fridge, etc.
Evening:
At around 5 pm, she exercises (usually) at home. Exercise is then followed by a warm cup of black coffee. Post this, she prepares dinner for her family.
Night:
Nights, self-admittedly, are her favourite part of the day: they’re all about selfcare, where she indulges in her skincare routine, which includes cleansing her face and moisturising it with a water-based moisturiser. This is then followed by taking a collagen supplement for her skin and some multivitamins.
Shazia then drinks 2-3 glasses of water, keeping a 15-minute gap between each glass, to keep herself hydrated throughout the night.
The things that make Shazia happy
Shazia loves cooking and, even though it’s a part of her daily routine, she has her own way of turning it into a hobby she enjoys.
Being a foodie who’s trying to eat healthy, she constantly experiments with indulgent recipes and tries to give them a healthy twist. Her motivation to cook also comes from the love and appreciation she receives from her friends and family, who relish her cooking.
Her holistic approach to health
Shazia believes that being healthy should be a part of our overall lifestyle. Feeling good about herself and taking care of her health are also important to her self-esteem and self-image.
She approaches her health in a way that takes into account her physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Finding a balance amongst these helps her feel empowered to live her life to the fullest.
Shazia's four key steps to good health:
- Keeping a check on her diet
- Avoiding excess sugar
- Including lots of fruits in her diet
- Doing at least one form of exercise, daily
Following this has made her feel more active and confident, and the progress she's seen has motivated her to keep at it.
Shazia’s advice to those who are about to begin their own journey to good health:- Take it slow
- Do what works for you
- Don’t get overwhelmed by trying to do everything at once
We hope that Shazia’s story inspired you a little to start your own journey to good health. :)
